Why Playing with 3-D Objects (Like LEGOs) Is Important

A few months ago, when I realized my son spent a lot of time with LEGOs but less and less time playing with his sisters, I started LEGO Family Night.  I randomly filled several bowls with LEGO pieces, cleared the dining room table and called everyone over. I'm happy to report LEGO Family Night is a hit with the kids.  It is also nice for my husband and I to relax a bit and remember how fun it is to build stuff for the joy of it.

I've included a fascinating lecture (for parents) on the benefits of playing, just for the joy of it, below:

A Little LEGO History-- Just the Facts Ma'am

Founder: Ole Kirk Kristiansen
Year: 1916
The First Lego Factory: A toy work shop
Its motto: Only the Best for Children
Fun fact: In Danish the word Lego means "play well".
What did Lego make at first? Wooden toys, then metal toys-- neither could put together like today's LEGOs!

Making Things With LEGOs is FUN!

Hi  my  name  is   Roxy.  I was introduced to LEGOs by my brother and now I   love LEGOs  too. I   can   build    fun  stuff.   My  favorite   creation is a ship I made. I  bet  that
you  will   make  one   better  than  me! I can't wait to see the things you will all make.

Why I love Legos? There is No End To the Creativity.

What does jelly-- the kind you spread on bread, and a LEGO brick have in common?  Well, when you open a jar of jelly the possibilities are endless, the jelly is ready to be used (spread or flopped on) and changed to fit your needs. Opening a box full of LEGO brinks(even a small one) gives me the same feeling. You can use LEGOs to make a car, a troll or any thing that you want.  With a handful of LEGO brinks, say, 16, you can make about 50 different designs.
So we are starting this LEGO CLUB so we can all share our creations.  I'm sure we will all be amazed at the possibilities. There is no end to the creativity!
